The early Slavic settlement in Central Europe in the light of new dating evidence

In recent years, in the area between the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea and the East Alps (Pannonia) many excavations were undertaken. They complemented, or even partially changed our knowledge about the spread of Slavic culture to the west. The main reason was the wider use of natural science methods, especially dendrochronology and the radiocarbon method, which provided a base for the better dating of Slavic material culture, and at the same time made more understandable the processes of change among Germanic, Slavic and indigenous cultures.
